Not Quite Night Project Logo

Tonight I am proud to present to you a new logo for my new photography project, Not Quite Night. For the past 4 months most of you readers have seen most of my NQN photos which are posted weekly here in this blog site.

In case some of our new readers do not know about Not Quite Night. NQN is a collection series of night street photographs made with a Smartphone camera, during the specific twilight period between 7:05PM to 7:25PM (Singapore Standard Time SST).

Created this simple animated banner out of fun.

The main reason why I use a Smartphone camera is simply it's light, fast and convenient. Nothing wrong to use a digital SLR camera for that tact sharp image quality and RAW image post-process but NQN is pretty much like an impromptu, guerrilla-style kind of night photography. Wherever I go during the twilight hour and when I spotted a night scenery I would take out my phone camera and snap away. For a DSLR, its size is quite bulky and setting up can take up certain amount of time especially when a tripod is deployed. This definitely slow me down. During that short time period of 20 minutes, I need to work fast and make as many different perspective shots as possible. Suffice it to say, a Smartphone camera is obviously the right choice as we carry it with us all the time, never leave home without it.

Well, there's an alternate option which is a mirrorless camera. With the advanced digital technology mirrorless camera is capable of producing tact sharp, good colors high quality images with fast shutter speed and low digital noise at super duper high ISO. Its compact size makes it convenient to carry wherever you go. I'm considering on this option but for the time being, I'll stick to my Apple iPhone 6 Plus.

Back on NQN, there are some similarities in ambience lighting between dawn and dusk. Though NQN could cover two different timelines, I chose the latter for its environmental atmosphere which opens up a greater possibilities in the aspect of night photography.

As of today onwards, all NQN photos will be watermarked with this logo. That's all for tonight! I hope to receive your continuous kind support. Until next blog post, take care and lights off!

Not Quite Night series #5

In mid August, I started out this new night phonography series Not Quite Night, in which all photographs are taken with my iPhone 6 Plus during the nautical twilight period between 7:25PM to 7:45PM (Singapore Standard Time SST). Nautical twilight occurs during the time when the sun is 6-12 degrees below the horizon. A lot of color will have faded.

In my last blog, I posted my second photo and I couldn't get to title each shot I made and I really like the color contrast and sceneries during this nautical twilight period. So I came up with this title which somehow deem fit.

There are some similarities in ambience lighting between dawn and dusk which you can't tell from the images unless the photographer states so. Suffice to say Not Quite Night covers two different timelines which explores and opens up greater possibilities in the aspect of night photography.

Not Quite Night series #4 – Tricker Tree

This is just behind a bus-stop along a busy road in the late evening, and you know, there are times when something speaks to you and you couldn't tell why but you are compelled to make the move. I was in that moment which I captured it on my Apple iPhone 6+ with some post-process in Snapseed.

A Night at Dakota Crescent Serial - Week 6

Let Me In

After making the shots of the mail boxes, my URBEX sense was ignited and I went up the stairs to the second storey and discovered two flat units' main doors unlocked and wide opened. So I invited myself in to explore. More after the jump.

A Night at Dakota Crescent Serial - Week 5

Mail Boxes
These mail boxes belong to Block 16, a 3-storey high HDB flat building, just right next to the Dove playground. All residents in this building have since moved out and some promo flyers can be found inside the unlocked ones. There are no elevators in this building but staircases. Though the building is vacant for months now, the lights are turned on at night. I made a few shots for HDR post-production in Nik Collection HDR Efex Pro and this is the result.

Next in the next blog, I'll be exploring one of the vacant units, so do subscribe for the new update.
