This Used To Be My Playground serial – Triceratops playground (2019)

Tonight I want to share with you on my latest nocturnal journey to this Triceratops playground located in northern Singapore. Like the Cargo Truck playground, this is one of the newly designed playground equipments, which I find it quite unique. In fact, there's another dinosaur playground just a few steps away. It's a Stegosaurus playground (shown below) which I might consider doing it in the near future. For now, let's make the jump to view my nocturnal work on this Triceratops.

This Triceratops playground poses much more lighting challenges than any other playground I've made so far. Many exposures were made and flash light fired at varies angle on that single night. I was trying to get as many different lighting shots as I can, so as to get the best results during the post-production process in Photoshop.

As the playground structure design is unique with its body in sliced-form, it gives me room for some creative lightings, in which I added red for its interior. A Nikon Speedlight SB-900 on red cellophane paper was placed and fired wirelessly at varies angle. Despite of the shallow depth of field with aperture set at f/5.6 and its eye focused, along with those specular highlights, it has this three dimensional effect.

During post-production, I selected all the best lighting shots and stacked them all. Then I used the Pen tool to make detailed selection of the Triceratops and set it against a black background. And this is the final result which I like it so much.

Let's take a look at the other side of this Triceratops.

The making of this photo was pretty straight forward, where the flash light was fired at 3 angles for back light, specular highlights and fill light, so as to create that 3-dimensional effect set against the black background. It was certainly fun in the making of these photographs and in post-production. That's all for tonight!
